Here Comes Adulthood

Let me give you a recap of my life since my last blog post.

I told my dad I didn't want to go to med school, and that I want to go to grad school instead. He gave his permission.

I graduated last April and had dinner with my family and my boyfriend.

I got accepted into the MS Microbiology program of the Institute of Biology, University of the Philippines, Diliman. Now I'm on my first year.

I didn't get the scholarship program I applied for because I had 9 units of (read: too much) undergraduate courses to take.

I'm applying for this position in the University which I will talk more about if I get accepted.

In this new phase of my life, my energy is being drained by adult requirements instead of school. I applied twice for an NBI clearance for different purposes. I applied for the Civil Service Exam. I got a cedula. I got a barangay clearance and a barangay ID, my first government-issued ID. Not a registered voter yet, nor a licensed driver. I still have to work on those two. My next project is my TIN. I still have a long list of adult requirements to get, but I think I'll take a break after the TIN.

Adulthood isn't too welcoming, but I'm easily coping. I've queued longer and went back and forth to buildings in UP more, so  getting government ID's and other requirements did not surprise me.

I'd love to talk more about grad school, but maybe I'll wait a little bit longer until I'm stable. Meanwhile, please wish me luck on my job application.

PS

See my new tags grad school and adulthood? And read my About Me section, I tweaked it a little. Teehee.

Just Me

Banyuhay means bagong anyo ng buhay, in English, "metamorphosis."

I have long been wanting to create a new blog and start anew. I have been writing on my previous blog since 2006, and it's like an old notebook with its crumpled pages filled with doodles and notes. A new blog is like having a new notebook. A fresh one, with clean, white pages ready to receive doodles and notes.

Why Banyuhay? Like I said, a new form of life. I can not deny that I have not been transformed since that evening on 2006 I decided to create my previous blog. A lot of things happened, some happy and some, well, unfortunate. That old notebook is getting too annoying; it tries to eat me whenever I flip through its pages. Most of the time, I manage to escape its sharp teeth.

This new notebook will remind me of a new form of life everyday I open it. Transformations do not need to happen once in a lifetime. It can happen everyday. That's the best part, because you will be reminded that each day is a new chance to change.

I'm Alyzza. Third year BS Biology in the University of the Philippines, Diliman. I would love to be a scientist someday and help improve the status of research in the Philippines, but I'd rather be a medical doctor and cure people. I think both are equally helpful, but being a doctor is my childhood dream.

I love to dream and watch the night sky, but I haven't seen a shooting star before. I appreciate almost all kinds of music. I can play the piano, but I'd rather sing. I enjoy reading books and I enjoy writing as well. I like taking long walks, but I seldom walk our dog. I like watching movies, especially if I have popcorn around. I was once infatuated with Mr. Darcy, but I'd rather have someone who enjoys music as much as I do. One who plays an instrument, he doesn't need to be in a band. He does need to learn living with just a few people, those who are closest to our hearts. I'm not really comfortable with crowds, especially those who were trying to eat me in my old notebook. I would love to travel someday - China, Japan, Korea, Egypt, France, Italy, you name it. I get lost easily; I'm bad with directions. But I remember faces and places and small details like the name of someone's pet or the face of that stranger I met last night. I love ice cream, chocolates, cookies, pizza, and vodka, but hot chocolate would be just as good.

I guess that's all you need to know. Happy holidays!
